literature and the self was a comp studies class i took the fall of my sophomore year.  (that’s the class that made me friends with tim!! <3)  i think about it a lot.  it was a good class.

anyway, i was just creeping on facebook, and i noticed the different ways people present themselves online.  this was one thing we talked about in that class.  we broke into groups and did projects on different manifestations of the self.  our group talked about body modifications, and i forget most of the other topics.  besides the internet one.  this was when myspace was more popular, so they looked at myspace, facebook, xanga, and blogspot (and some other similar types of sites) to look at how people present themselves online.  it’s interesting because what you see on these kinds of websites is how people want others to see them.  it’s all deliberate.  and you can’t really get away from it, because even if you don’t put anything on your facebook or whatever on purpose, you’re still trying to project some image of yourself as being too awesome to give a shit.
